95 e320 codes
pin 8: 25,33,38 pin 14: 4
seems intermitting. will drive perfect one day then the next not so much. when the cel comes on itll have a hiccop or weak miss. runs beautiful when cold. not too sure why theres a cc code. must have been somehting i did when i did the head gasket. cc has been working. updated harness, new timing chaing and head gasket, new cam sensor, o2 sensor, variable cam sensor, maf sensor, updated throttle actuator..and yes when i put the timing in i rotated the variable cam clockwise. i have fresh sensors and the readings at the connectors match up with the readings on my other w124 which runs beautiful. came on here to get help with theh next steps of diagnostics |
what is on pins 8 and 14? don't have a good enough memory for that system.

Pin 8 codes:
25 - CMP sensor not recognized or implausible 33 - Maximum retard setting on at least one cylinder has been reached or the ignition angle deviation between the individual cylinders is greater than 6 degrees crankshaft angle 38 - Adjustable camshaft timing solenoid - open/short to ground or B+ Pin 14 code: 4 - Cruise control switch (S40) I'm not sure what these codes add up to. Have you cleared the codes to see which ones recur? What about primary codes from the diagnostic module (apart from Pins 8 and 14)? |
ok, pin 8 is the engine, whats pin 14? once i know what system, i can get code definitions. that's what i was asking.

I think I’m going to drop the car off at the indie shop next week for a better diagnosis. I’m out of ideas and tossed a lot of parts at the car. For the miss I checked to see if the plug wires were grounding out.. didn’t see any light show .. regapped the plugs..nothing. It could be a plug wire or a coil just guessing.
Then as for the cam codes I need to have an more experienced eye look at it. I know the timing is good. I need to see why it’s not getting a signal. I do have voltage and continuity at the cam sensor. One thing is that it idles smooth and drives beautiful but compared to my other e320 it Is lacking alot of power. My 94 pulls like a freight train and has about 300k miles in it. |

No. You would have noticed right away as two connectors would have been completely different. I was initially sent the wrong one when I replaced mine.

Swapped the ecu from my 94 to the 95 and it runs 80 percent better and only has the 25 code and a flat power band. However at the same time the 94 with the 95 ecu still runs perfect and the issues that the 95 had aren’t transferred over. So many wierd issues. Having doubts that my updated engine harness is any good. Running out of ideas

Also go over the wiring harness connections to the ECU and all pins and compare it to the factory diagram, on my old E300 the idle pinouts to the control module were messed and it would idle at 1100 rpm all the time. The wiring was packaged perfectly original and nice with updated delphi part no. Once I corrected the wrong pins the idle was rock steady at 650 rpm. |
I’m not going to take it to the shop again. I shouldn’t have to babysit an experienced Mercedes tech especially when I pay $140/hour
Found a short in the cam sensor wire. So I’m trying to fix that. It’s not just in 1 spot if I wiggle the wire it’ll short out throughout. Anyone have a spare cam wire from an old rotted harness? |
Still getting the pin 8 25 and 33 code. This car is getting frustrating. The w124 is a cool car but the electrical gremlins are killing it. I guess the next step is to completely change out the cam sensor wire from ecu to sensor

As you dont own equipment to see the sensor inputs at the ECU - it will become very frustrating.
You need to find a small oscope to see if you are seeing signal at the ECU itself from any sensor which is throwing errors, This is how these cars were repaired when they were common. The mercedes diag software for this can show you this data too. |
