560SL AC intermittent problem
87 560SL AC unit works great when working! Air is freezing cold and still using freon 12! Only trouble is it only wants to work when I first start the engine. Will work fine until I shut the engine off, then refuses to start. Blower won't run, compressor will not start, nada, nothing! Next morning, go out and start the car, working like a charm again. Must be a sensor somewhere but cannot find anyone who has experienced a similar problem. Is it the in car temp sensor, the ETR, temp sensor for heat exchanger? Seems that when it gets warm or too warm, something somewhere, when you need it most, is functioning exactly opposite to what it's supposed to? Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

The R107 used the early 80s ACC system through the end of production. The silver temperature regulator box behind the glovebox is your most likely issue. Capacitors puke their electrolyte on the card and eat traces, the result is erratic operation or no operation. Fan doesn't run, functions don't work like they're supposed to, temp regulation is hot or cold, not much in between. Buy a rebuilt box, or pay someone to rebuild it for you, a junkyard or used box will be just as bad as the one you have.

I believe James Dean (?) on this forum rebuilds the silver boxes.
