Behind the passenger seat on my 1992 500SL at some point near the roll bar and the mechanism for the retraction of the top there is a constant humming noise. I have made sure the sequence is correct allowinf that the operation of the top must take place within 10 seconds of activation of the red switch. The sound seems like a servo motor. How can I stop this noise?

Are you sure that it is not something under the car like the fuel pump(s)?
