Yep, there are rooms full of workers specifically targeting you, it is even a line item in the budget and share holders vote every year to increase the budget to keep you beaten down.
In fact, the budget might be cut next year because apparently they no longer need to beat you down as you have convinced yourself that the world is out to get you. ( and that it is flat / we didn't land on the moon. )
As others have stated, limp exists to prevent further damage. It also exists in an effort to keep the car moving so it can be safely moved off the road. Would you rather have a car that just shuts off when there is a problem like an older car or one that makes every attempt to keep going?
There are GM engines that shut off cylinders when the car is overheating in attempt to keep the car moving. This works because air is pumped through the cylinder when it isn't firing cooling it, then another cylinder is shut off and the cooled out turned back on.
Do you really want to disable this feature?
You do realize that fuel trims are a sort of limp that continues to adjust fuel mixtures as components age, this is something that a carb car won't do. Well unless you consider a sinking float making the mixture super rich a fuel trim.
Modern cars are far more reliable than in years past. Yes, there are more things that can go wrong but for the most part they keep going.
In the 1950's 60,000 miles was considered end of useful life, now a car with 200,000 is still considered to have useful life left.
