Blower motor not working, 1988 300ce (w124)

Last weekend, the fusible link for the blower motor caught fire. Happily, I was able to extinguish it quickly, although it burned up the fusible link and the housing. I searched the forums and came to discover that this is a known issue, possibly caused by the screws for the fusible link touching the fenders. It was a total bummer since it damaged the paint, but it could have been much, much worse.

After replacing the charred fusible link assembly with a spare, my blower motor still won't come on. I confirmed the motor itself works by hooking it directly to the battery. There is no voltage at the fusible link although I'm getting 7 or so at yellow prong for the regulator. I also swapped in a spare climate control panel and no change.

Any ideas? It's pretty hot!

Edit: For whatever its worth, right before the fire the ABS and SRS lights came on and stayed on after I drove away. Before that, they would come on and off randomly, leading me to believe there's a short somewhere. They both stayed on for another day, but now it's only the SRS light that's on. The car runs well.

Many thanks,

Your gonna have to track the wire back to the power source. I’m guessing the wire got fried or shorting out with other wires somewhere up stream

If its the coffin box fusible link then its source is from the primary fuse box next to it. Remove the box and trace it back.

I solved the problem a few weeks back by replacing the ignition switch. Took about an hour. Fan works great!
