W124 H&R springs.

Installing H&R springs today. I was able to install the spring with a 3 bur pad without using the compressor tool, installed I can wiggle it around. It will be under load when the wheels are installed and on the ground, but is this save?

I read that for this reason Bilstein recommends using B8 struts, less travel. Witch I still have to order.

And looking at the front suspension I have a lot of work to do.

If you mean will your spring fly out while driving, probably not. But, when you go over bumps spending depending on how big they are you may hear an occasional rattle. Also, you may notice excessive tire wear on the inside treads and/or over the entire tire as a whole if your wheel skips about while driving over rough roads because of momentary loss of wheel contact with the road.

The H&R shocks lowered the car to much, making it underivable. Reinstalled the old springs with 19 mm pads, what gives it the right height, still low, but no wheel scraping. New struts are definitely needed.

Still this car is a rocket compared to my 300SE.

The springs are what determines the ride height. So running those HR springs with new shocks, even B8s, would still be too low and cause the shock piston to bottom out making your car feel like you're driving with zero dampening. If you want to lower your car try getting some rear c208 springs and taking a coil off at a time until you get the proper height you're looking for. The c208 rear coils are beefy and stiff. Also try some 400E front coils. Those are also beefy, especially to support the weight of the massive V8 engine.

The springs are already cut, with the 19mm pad installed now, it's just high enough to not bottom out or touch the wheel fender when turning. I like the idea of C280 or 400E springs. C280's are plentiful in the yards these days.

Not C280, C208 as in the CLK convertible. Rear springs are beefier because of the weight of the retractable roof components in the rear. Same as with the r129, but I find the 208 coils appear to be slightly thicker and the pitch of the coils are spaced further apart.

Got you. Will be harder to find at the JY.
