Blower motor stays running 1976 450sl

Hi I could use some help.. I have a 1976 450sl that was parked for a while.
After cleaning the rust out of the fuel tank and a few other things to get it running ... The problem is as soon as it starts (or the key is turned to power) the fan motor runs blowing air through the vents.. I removed the console cover to get access to the blower switch and disconnected the 7 pin connector ....started the car and the fan started running ugh any ideas would be appreciated thanks Tom
