1985 280SL sluggish

I gave a 1985 280SL that is new to me. It unfortunatley is a little hard to start and it also accelerates really slowly. It almost feels like it just isn't getting the juice when I fully depress the accelerator. In addition, I noticed there is no whoosh sound when I open the gas cap.

I have done lots of reading and am trying to determine what a novice that is willing and capable but not a mechanic could try for remedies. Any trouble shooting steps or easy to do parts swaps are welcomed!

With this being a 1985 280SL (Euro model) I also am having a hard time finding parts diagrams although I know the parts are available. Any suggestions on where to look for that too is welcomed!

thank you

Check that all of the plastic bushings are present in the accelerator linkage. There is a plastic piece that fits in one of the linkages that likes to break apart and fall out with the result of only having maybe 1/4 of your throttle travel.

That was it - the white bushing in the throttle linkage was missing but on top of that the adjustment was all messed up. It looked like someone replaced one of the linkage arms at some point and didn't know what they were doing. Gas pedal all the way down and I had maybe half gas. Adjusted and things are much better. thanks
