2000 SL500 Top silliness!

Hello again, this is the silly thing my soft top is doing on the SL. A few weeks ago it was not locking at the windshield so I did a synchro with both windows and the top. Worked perfect.
A few days ago it got to within an inch or two of the windshield and stopped as if something was binding. Tried the synchro again, but the top button was glowing red and the windows would not move. Unhooked the battery to possibly clear any codes, but its still doing this:

Not sure as to where to proceed and what to try next before I take it into a shop. Only one Mercedes shop in town...and he KNOWS it!

BTW, my 400E is still in Galveston, might wait till he gets desperate and drops the price more.
Missed a chance to get a 1992 300e in Houston Wednesday. 125k miles, garage kept...uhm...quite perfect for an asking price of $2500.

You can hear the engine adjusting its RPMs for the higher electrical load after each click of the top trying to move, I bet it is binding, that would create momentary electrical loads which the engine would respond to like that.....at least it sure sounds like it!

Yes, thats the first thing I did was check the fluid level. My dad, (owner) also thinks its binding somewhere. I'll look into that next.
Thanks for the input guys...

It sounds like the proximity switch above the rear view mirror isn't reporting the correct postion….or…..the magnet that the switch reacts to has become detached.....
