Rear subframe mounts genII W126
Need to replace the differential mount and both rear subframe mounts on my 1990 300SE. The subframe mounts for the genII cars NLA and the only ones I can find are Meyle's, or if I want to go OEM the mounts for the earlier genI cars is still available.
How are the subframe mounts from Meyle and would a gen1 OEM mount fit a genII car? https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/3338/MBZ_3338_SUSSHK_pg4.htm#item14 |
What a coincidence I just ordered gen2 rear subframe mounts yesterday made by Meyle and I too drive a 1990 300SE:)
will update you on the fitment and quality once I get to installing them a week or two from now |

I put the Meyle mounts in my SDL. They fit and worked just fine. Raised the ass end up a good inch or so. The OE mounts were fully collapsed and the replacements made a big difference in how the car handled and drove. Even if I had to do it every couple of years, the improvement in driving quality was enough to justify it.

Well I got lucky and my mounts arrived today and since I didn't have much to do anyway I decided to change them!
What you get: 2x Meyle mounts marked L and R (didn't notice a difference between them other than the markings old ones were marked too) 2x Rubber stops 6x new washers 4x new small front bolts How the job went: I followed the fsm and didn't remove the tire or jack up the car. You have to support the subframe near the mount before removing the bolts. Be careful when doing this job because when you remove the bolts the subframe which is pushed by the spring can smash into the ground if your jack slips. Removal was easy with just a screwdriver. Installation was ok. Used a lot of silicone grease on the mount and the subframe. Made a jig out of wood so that my other jack would push on the outside of the mount. But I did have to remove the new mount and install it 180 degrees out because the big bolt wouldn't go in. Test drive time! WOW what a difference! my rear suspension is more comfortable (It always felt a bit harsh) and a slight vibration I had on the highway is now gone car is smooth even at high speed. |
Thanks for the info. Going to pick them up tomorrow at my local parts store.

For the gen II bushings what's the orientation, do the open sides go front to back or side ways? The old bushings are gen 1, so I have nothing to go by.

I couldn't find any info on that but what I did is I looked at the direction the old ones were installed and put the new ones on the same way

I think on mine it was like hollow part front-back and the solid rubber part side to side but you will see it once you remove the bracket |

that's interesting. must've been changed at some point with a wrong part I guess |
Both subframe bushings and the dif. bushing and what a difference those new mounts make!
Had these really annoying high pitched sounds in the cabin, like you hear when the car is in reverse. Gone, pretty much silent again. Now I can enjoy the rattles again...:) |
What Christina said is correct - solid rubber L to R, open gap frt to rear.
I've had my Mayle bushings on for about 20 years, all still seems fine. DG |
