1998 320 4Matic wagon front axle

Does anyone know if the right side front axle nut is left or right hand thread?
I got the left side nut loose but the right side is being very stubborn.

Its a regular right hand thread.

Axle nut has right handed thread!

Thanks duxthe1! I'll keep working it, it has to give up sooner or later!

If there are signs of corrosion you will need to use 3/4 drive sockets and real industrial use breaker bars or rent a 2 handled engine powered or electric impact driver.

Under “industrial strength breaker bar”, you can include a normal breaker bar with a 5 foot jack handle over it.

The neck of the the bolt is deformed after installation, use a punch to straighten it. Then an electric impact wrench is sufficient to break it free.

JH Williams 3/4 inch breaker bar is nice for this job, if the nut is still deciding to be nasty - slip a pipe over that breaker.

Lock the wheel with the brake.
Otherwise, the tire will deform when you put a lot of force on the nut.
That is not bad for the tyre but it takes a lot of energy to deform a tyre (your energy). It can also help if you support the lower control arm with an axel stand.

Be careful with impact drivers, never use them without locking the wheel, the impact can destroy the differential gears.
