Whom this may concern:
Hi, I am a 93 model 300E 3.2 and the head gasket leakage was recently discovered. I am
wondering what causes the leakage, when I have extremely low mileage ? 32000 miles. Could it be the age ? or the aggressive driving behavior ? what exactly is a head gasket and what it does ? Can I just leave it ( the leakage )alone ? I heard this is a very common problem on the engine, and the factory would probably authorize the repair at no charge ?
After the repair would my engine able to perfore as before ?
I hope someone could provide some sort of help on this. Any tips or concerns will be greatly appreciated
Thank you very much for your time.
Peter regards

The cylinder head gasket seals the head to the block. The head is aluminum & the block is cast iron, the gasket keeps coolant, oil, & compression from leaking. Its a sure fact that this gasket has a lot of work to do, and on this engine failure rate is somewhat high!

To answer your second question, the engine will perform the same as before the repair if the repair is done properly. And yes, we see many of them fail due to faulty gasket design in my opinion...
