Hood Seal Placement Question (with photo)

Just replaced the left/right hood seals today in my 1992 300E, the old ones weren't gripping any longer and (I thought) were incomplete.

But the new ones were basically the same size (trimmed the passenger side slightly).

The drivers side in particular looks strange... leaves a lot of open and unsealed area.

Also the passenger side seal is short, about 0.5", while the drivers side is tall, about 1.5".

Does that sound right, and do I have these things placed correctly?

In case you were waiting in breathless anticipation... I finally figured out that tall seal on the right is supposed to go in the center of the hood, not on the fender.

There was some body work done on my car years ago and the body shop didn't replace some damaged seals, and/or didn't correctly reinsstall some.

Both sides are supposed to have the lower-height seals, from what I can tell.
