M110 Valves.

Hi there, Ive set the valves at .010 intake and .025 exhaust. The engine is still noisy. It's a rebuild head, btw, with new valves. Can I go tighter to get the noise down? please

bm:

The clearances are intake .10mm (.04"), and exhaust .25mm (.10").

That is a solid lifter head.....it is a bit noisy in the best of conditions.

Thank you. I believe that's what I've got. .1 and .25. what happens if i go tighter (less clearance) at least on the exhaust side ... ??

Whether measured in mm or in inches, .010 does not equal .1, and .025 does not equal .25. The location of decimal points, the units of measurement, and consistency all are important.

have less power/fuel economy and possibly burn a valve out? they are sodium filled exhaust valves but still can happen

Perhaps that's the problem - I'm reading .001 as metric , when it's SAE

Tighter than spec valve clearance will lead to burned valve and/or valve seats. Not recommended.

Take your time to figure out the correct thickness feeler gauge and favor a loose adjustment vs. tight.

Good luck!!!

Yes.

Im looking at the feeler guage. Perhaps its not correct, as you suggest.

The smallest says .008, .203mm

then .010, .254mm -- (this must be good for the exhaust)

thanks

But what about the intake size?

Rob Pruijt 04-06-2020 09:35 AM

M110 valves get noisy if they are to tight (even a little bit).
Also check for wear of the cam lobes.

The M110 requires valve clearance adjustment every 12,500 miles. To avoid constant confusion, I suggest you get a feeler gauge in MM and have done with it. As this motor acquires mileage, valve clearance tends to become smaller - not larger, so never set it less than factory specs. .10 MM intake, .25 MM exhaust COLD adjustment.
