SL climate control question.

Is there a way to stop the climate control from coming on everytime I start the car? This is really annoying because I don't use the system much, especially with the top down. Also, is this normal operation for the 129 cars? Thanks, Eli.

It is normal for the climate control to switch on every time the key transitions from off to position "2". And I agree it is annoying.

I pull #7 fuse to disable the climate control. I have noticed no side-effects.

It may be annoying, but running the AC system all the time is highly recommended. The compressor needs constant oiling and if left off for too long you may find yourself facing a high repair bill. I run mine in the winter, even only for a few minutes just to keep the parts lubed.

Bobterry, does this disable the entire system or just the auto start feature? I would like to keep it operable for some occasons.

Elau, I agree with you about compressor lubrication, but there are cars that automatically cycle the compressor only just to keep it lubed. Surely Mercedes could have done this as well. It really "BLOWS" to turn on the ignition and get blasted by warm smelly air.

Rub

Sorry, but it disables the entire system. Maybe your best solution is to have a finger on the climate control OFF switch as you switch the ignition on. And I'm certain you don't wish to go this route, but a solution could involve adding a bit of circuitry to your control unit so that it would not switch on until you pressed a button.
