2005 CLK 320 can't remove front rotors
My neighbor just bought. 05 clk
He doing a full brake job and can't seem to get the front rotors loose The set star screw has been removed and it still wont budge Any advise would be greatly helpful and appreciated |
heat,and dead blow hammer
|
Small sledge applied to back side of rotor will do it. I'm assuming they are not going to be reused.

Replacing rotors

davidlee, have one lug bolt threaded in a couple of threads to restrain the rotor when it breaks loose.

I generally soak them with penetrating oil. Then give them a burst of impact in between the lug bolt areas with a blunt nose impact hammer. Don't go crazy with this there are bearings in there. Same with hammering. If they give me real trouble I will do the same with a puller in place giving it some tension. I have had them so frozen that a puller by itself will bend the rotor.

When you're hammering on the rotor the impact goes through the wheel bearing. Not something you want to **** around with. |
i don't think the spindle can be bent that way but possibly the caliper bracket, if one were to forget to apply the force evenly, (moving from one bolt set up to the other) as demonstrated in the video. some people just don't understand the basics of mechanical work and can find a way to break something that shouldn't be broken....i've never had one stuck on there like that but the method in the video seems pretty reliable, low risk and works.....
