Center bearing failing? Help!

Well, a new wheel bearing seems to have cured the "clack-clack" noise from the rear of the 190E 2.6. Funny, not a noise I ever heard with bearing failure before, but "ya learn something new everyday."

However, I have one more problem to solve. While driving, there is a gentle "thunk, thunk, thunk" that is road speed generated, and noticably coming from the transmission-rear area. The front flex disc is worn, and I'm going to replace it, but this noise/vibration seems very unlike the flex disc.

Perhaps a center bearing?

If it is the carrier bearing (center drive shaft bearing) just drop the one end and have a new one pressed in. =

Driveshaft support bearing failure is usually indicated by a constant growl, squeal, or whine. Not a thump thump.
