cd rom

i see references throughout the forums to a cd rom. Does this cdrom refer to all models of mb, or are there specific cdroms for each model, or year or model type? I have a 93 600sel and would like to obtain service/maintenance information.
Where would I obtain this cd?

Thanx in advance

Mithra

There was a very similar question yesterday. It alluded to service manuals on ebay for 140 cars. I looked through 12 pages of MB manuals and didn't see them so I didn't reply.

On ebay you will find copies of copies of CDs for all the chassis that have such: 114/115, 116, 107, 123, 124, 126, and 201 (each a one or two disc set). You also can find real versions occasionally. There is no such manual for the 140 car but there are some things that could be found. One such thing often refered to on ebay as a service manual is the Model Year Update Manual. In 1992 a separate book was published to introduce the 140 chassis. This is a book an inch thick or more. For early 140s its a great sorce of info. For later years there will be a lot of misinformation and lack of coverage, its all there is though.

There also are many versions or copies of the info Access series of CD Roms available. These also were "introduction to service" training CDs (in gorgeous detail) of new systems and disassembly techniques. I am not sure whether there is one for the 140 chassis but I imagine there is. I can't remember how early they start but I have about 11 of them. my first were copies but I did get a second set of genuine ones through ebay along with a number of technician training packages which were boxes that included a model training text, training video and training CD (Access). I have a copy of the training video showing the dash removal on 140 so I imagine there must have been an Access CD for 140 also.

cd rom

Thanks for the reply Steve.

I have always made a point of obtaining service manuals for whatever vehicle that I owned at the time, and invariably that has saved me no end of grief at some point during said vehicle's tenure in my stable ( as small as it is).

Your reply confirmed what I have come to realize, and it is disappointing to find that as great as the vehicle, and the manufacturer is; that, they are not much better than a struggling upstart company from a third world country, when it comes to documenting service/preventative maintenance/repair procedures for distribution, at a price, to DIYers and other 3rd party repair facilities.

That being said, it does not take away from the actual vehicle itself.

It certainly speaks volumes about the individuals on this and other forums, who so freely give of their time, knowledge, and expertise to help owners of these fine vehicles, to maintain and repair such.

Again, thanx for the reply, and yes, I will return to the forums to avail myself of the knowledge that the manufacturer does not see fit to disseminate.

Just to let you guys know, I bought one of these for the 116 chassis. It seems to be pretty descent, and fairly specific. But it was a burnt copy, not the orginal. Not a big deal since it was only 10 dollars, but I have found a different one with more specific information about parts, that I don't think was made by Mercedes. All off eBay of course.

I've got the parts CD also. The program wasn't written by Mercedes, but the database(s) that it uses are chock full of information that could have only been obtained from Mercedes.
