E55 brake pad sensors

Hi Everyone,

Im finally changing my front brakes on my 2006 after owning the car for 11 yrs. While replacing the front brakes I only have one sensor on the car located on the passenger side. When I bought my parts it specified 2 front sensors. Does anyone know if I should have 2 sensors or just one? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
R

I'm pretty sure all SBC 211s have a single brake pad sensor per axle.

R, one brake pad wear sensor per axle is typical since cost-cutting practices took precedence over engineering preferences … around 1996. Our 1992 300CE had a wear sensor on all 4 front brake pads.

All, Appreciate the input. Every video I've seen in youtube they have 2 for my car. I tried looking for the main brake sensor harness that suppose to mount on the caliper but nothing. I'm puzzled. On my W202 I only have one on each axle. I might have to but a shop manual to verify or ask the stealership for input.

Most if not all of the later cars only have one sensor on the front right and one on the right rear. The theory being that they all will wear evenly which has turned out to be a joke. I get more and more of these that come in that have worn metal to metal because the inner pad on the side with no sensor has worn to nothing while the outer pad or the pad with the sensor may have 50% left. Just more of MBZ being cheap and cutting corners or securing more work. Either way you slice it, it's bad engineering.
