Cruise control switch problem???

The other day coming back from Costa Mesa I decided to use the CC. At the first attempt to engage it didn't catch, I thought about my recent cruise amp repairs and testing of the actuator and tried again. On the second attempt the cruise engaged and held a steady speed for the nearly 90 mile ride home.

As I neared town I had to brake, upon hitting the brake the cruise disengaged, but immediately re-engaged when I released the brake. I could not disengage the cruise via the stalk and every attempt to disengage with the brake was only temporary. That is until my speed dropped below about 25 MPH.

I'm thinking the switch gave up the ghost and stuck in the engaged position. I have not attempted to re-engage the cruise since.

Before I order a new switch from FastLane/PartsShop, I ask is this a common symptom of a CC stalk that is toast?

Update

I decided the cruise switch was the culprit, so $28.00 later and a couple days - thanks to PartsShop- my new switch arrived today. Spent about an hour gutting the column and replacing the switch, with excellent results. Cruise works perfectly once again.

While I had the steering wheel off, I think I also tracked down the cause of the intermittent SRS MIL I was experiencing. Seemed everytime the interior of the car got over 125*F, the SRS lamp would stay on. What I found was one of the 4 spring loaded contacts for the air bag would stick and not fully extend like the others. Cleaning the assembly with contact cleaner and working the contact in/out repeatedly has freed it up.

Interior of the car was almost 145*F when I rolled it into the garage to gut the column, and the column parts were still hot to the touch upon reassembly. The SRS lamp was only lit for the requisite 10 seconds. We'll see how long this lasts.

S & W on sight

Hi Mike, glad you hit the target on that one...actually two bullseyes there!
My W126 hads that SRS light come on sometimes.
Usually in the Valley on HWY 5 as I drive to and fro from S.F. to San Diego.
I posted last year and was advised that the source of the prob
lay in exactly what you described.

I still have not had time to replacemy w123 grill assembly with yours. Now I'm going out of town again for a couple of weeks.

Soon, Soon...

Cheers!!

Denis,

I'll be hitting the road for a couple weeks myself soon. Maybe by the time I get back you'll have found the time for the transplant. I dying to see how it looks ;).
