M103 rear crank seal
Is the special tool absolutely necessary to replace the rear crank seal of an M103 or can it be tapped into place?
Would it be better to remove the seal carrier and press the seal in off the car? Is there a risk of tearing the oil pan gasket? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SEL |
Yes you can put in a new seal without special tool just remove rear crankshaft seal cover punch oil seal out install new seal, seal the cover with sealer.

- and consider replacing the front tranny seal while you are in there - getting there is the costly part :)

Actually, what leaks in there (besides the rear main) is a large O-ring seal inside the front pump. I wouldn't mess with the trans input seal without having a pro go in and do the job right. I've been here several times with my M103 TE:(

Learn something everyday - I was under the impression it was the front tranny seal Michael. Thanks
