Mercedes E320 1995 wagon - weird gear change

Hi folks,

The gear change between 2-3 on my 1995 E320 wagon is a little weird...

The part where it "revs up" - for want of a better phrase - varies depending on how much throttle I'm using. The other gear changes are fine and it also doesn't hesitate going into reverse.

Previous owner did tell me that the differential had been swapped out at some point - speedo is out by 20% which correlates.

Any thoughts on what the issue may be? It doesn't really affect the driving of the car - at least not now!

I'm also glad to report that I shot that video on route to the exhaust place. Now, I can barely tell the engine is running when it's at idle - much better

Thanks

The term for what you are experencing is "flare". It is common on the 2-3 shift and think you can get a K1 spring repair kit for like 10 clams.

Oh, this is exactly what I wanted to hear, as opposed to "don't know how to say this to ya: your transmission is f**ked!"

Thank you

Just googled the kit and found a very thorough DIY guide on one of the other MB forums. Certainly looks doable - will probably wait until the weather no longer sucks to tackle it though!

Thanks again for this
