Jumpy temperature guage

Hi fellas,

The temp. guage on my SD is erratic sometimes. It will jump around while I'm driving, or sometimes at idle as well. Usually jumps up and down from around the 100 degrees F mark to 180 or so, quite spastically and for no apparent reason, and then levels out to the correct reading. It seems completely unpredictable...I cannot find any particular combination of circumstances that causes it.

Any ideas?...Bab sensor, bad guage, shorted wire?

Flicking gage

Mike,

We're going to have to stop meeting like this! My son had a problem just like yours on his Turbo 300D. One of two things fixed it. He replaced the temp sensor and then found a hairline crack around the neck on the surge tank. Obviously the surge tank was leaking pressure and substantailly lowering the boliing point, probably causing the gage to jump around. Anyway, check around the neck of the tank. Hope that helps.

Mike - pull the temp sensor and see if you can "wiggle" the terminal against the nut that is used to screw it into place. I have seen the "loosen" and cause the exact problem you are describing.
