Can anyone tell me the manufacture and model of the springs and shocks on a 92 500SEL? Are most of the suspension parts interchangable on 140 style bodies? For example, I can install a waterpump from a 95 S500 on my 92 as an upgrade. Can I install suspension parts from newer models to gain the newest techknowledgy and better ride? What upgrade paths are available for a 92 500SEL?

The parts will sub up to the latest ones available for that model. So if you go to the dealer and get the latest part #'s then you will have the latest. Later doesn't mean better. Remember that some of the later cars are/were built to meet a price point. The 1992 500 S was a good car if well maintained!

Mercedes builds their own suspension systems, both Bilstein & Boge help with the shocks/struts. 1992 model S-Class suffered with front end problems(class action law-suit), Most all were repaired with the best parts avail. at that time. I would think that a few cars missed some of the needed mods. to repair the problems. Of course the biggest problem with the front end was the terrible "Z" rated tires!!!
