722.6 trans...does this sound like a symptom of a bad conductor plate?
 

I'm looking around at possibly purchasing another W210 and not afraid of turning wrenches on them. There is one that isn't too terribly far away, an E430 with 125k. They say on their ad it was running/driving last week but now when put in gear, they say it feels like it's in neutral and won't move. I know the transmissions are practically bulletproof and it probably is the conductor plate or electrical connector not doing its job since the miles are pretty low so it's not high mileage wear and tear. Anyone on here that's much more familiar with the 722.6 failing want to give me some insight?

If it seems to stay in neutal it is a mechanical problem, not electrical.

1. Linkage between shifter and gearbox broken.
2. Broken tranmnission oil pump.
3. Broken B2 clutch

I recently gave my oldest son a 2002 E320 with 80k miles on it that is in near show room condition. He lives about 2-1/2 hours away in Atl area. Anyway he called and said car rolled back every time he put in park and then it got where it would not start (key would turn). It was the shift linkage bushings under the car that had failed. He had it towed to German Auto Solutions in Lawrenceville and $250 later he was rolling again. Thanks GAS:).

I went over car with a fine tooth comb before giving to him but did not think to look at shift bushings.

Sounds like the shifter has failed, confirmed when the gauges dont show any indication of the gear select position at all, this is a classic tell tale sign of the failed shifter (drink spillage) - its not a surefire way because you need to attach a scope to see if the shifter is actually on the network. In some cases you will experience the transmission bump hard when the shifter is moved.
