Radiator change for 87 190E

Is the radiator swap pretty straight forward for this model? Is the dealer the only place to get MB coolant??

Yes the radiator swap isn't too hard. Be careful with the plastic radiator shroud. It is held-in with two metal clips. Use a pair of plyers and pull gently straight up.

A lot of radiator shops rebuild MBZ radiators. I got mine done for about $150 several years ago.

Additionally, becareful of the plastic outlets/inlets and the little elbow that goes to the overflow tank. These tend to get quite brittle with age.

If one breaks try repairing with JBWeld. You have to let it sit but it saved me from having to get a whole new radiator just recently.

MBZ coolant can be purchased from this site. Give'em a try. Great people.

Where do I get this at and what exactly does it do???


The nipple part of the radiator on the right side was broken and someone tried to glue it back on but they didnt do such a great job and it leaked a little on an incline but hasn't leaked again. If I can fix it with this JB Weld it will save me from putting another 500 bucks into this vehicle right away. After the $2500 I paid for it, by the end of the coming week I will have sunk another grand in it for repairs.

You can get JBWeld at just about any hardware store in their glue sections.

My upper outlet broke off half way in two pieces. I first glued the two pieces together and waited over four hours until he glue was hard. I then took this subassembly and attached to the radiator itself. I made sure there was glue both inside and outside the neck and where the two pieces joined.

I used strapping tape with considerabel pressure to hold the pieces together since I didn't have a clamp that quite fit the application.

I also cleaned all the areas well to make sure there wan't any antifreeze around which could hurt the gluing process.

BTW, don't get the JBWeld Quick dry. It only goes to 300 degrees F and isn't as strong as the regular JBWeld.
