Lemforder Engine Mounts Fail after one Year??

Exactly one year ago I installed new Lemforder engine mounts and it appears they have already failed.

I should add that I have driven about 30K miles since then, daily, often on roads surfaces that are not so great (there is a lot of road construction going on in my part of Northern Virginia).

But this still seems too soon for them to wear out -- or am I being unrealistic?

Way too early to fail, try for warranty. If you have to buy I'd try Corteco.

Did you buy them from FCP Euro? If you did you get free new ones.

I got them from that place in Connecticut that offers lifetime replacement, so no worries there; plus it is an easy job. Just seems weird that they could collapse so fast, but then I have been driving a lot, and on some rough roads.

As a side note, that is not the only thing that I have replaced prematurely: Engine air filters (after 8 months) and cabin air filters, again, because of the heavy highway and other construction in this area.

I was horrified to see the amount dust, dirt, sand and *Cicadas* clogging my engine filter housing, on both intakes, when on a whim, I replaced them two weeks ago. And the cabin filter was simply filthy.

I have resigned myself to doing those monthly until all the highway construction, and associated dust plumes, that I drive through daily are finished. And last year I thought to myself, "Replacing the mounts was so easy I could do it every year," having no idea that would actually be the case! :eek:

This is one of those jobs where only OE Benz parts should be used IMHO.

Having just completed this job for a second time in a year, I need to make two amendments:

1. You do need to drop the entire front belly panel -- so you can position the jack under the oil pan (Duh :o)

2. A 2-inch extension is needed to access the mount's lower bolts through the frame.

The right/passenger-side mound was the one that was collapsed noticeable; the driver side less so.

This largely solved the vibration issue but I still can hear and feel some under certain conditions when stopped in gear; sometimes I feel and vibrations; sometimes there is just smoothness and dead silence.

This inconsistency would seem to rule out the mounts (unless the transmission mount, also replaced last year, needs attention. But I would doubt that -- and it was indeed an MB part purchased rom the dealer.

When I place my hand on the engine cover I can feel a vibration I never felt before, and I will address this in a new thread.

Lemforder don't have the best reputation in W124 circles.

don't know much about your model but on the W123, diesel fuel accidentally dripping on the motor mounts will shorten their life. I try my best to not let it happen or if it does happen to clean them immediately. That said, the car is a diesel so it seems inevitable that some diesel fuel is going to get on the motor mounts.......
