When did r134a first show up in W124's?
This has been discussed before, but there is always confusion about when r134a first appeared in W124's.
It is usually posted that it first arrived in 94/95 when the badging was changed to E320/E420/E500, etc., but my 1993 300E (see my signature below) came from the factory with 134a. This is really not surprising as 1993 300E's share the same chasis #, VIN #, and engine # as 94-95's. Because of this, I assumed that r134a therefore arrived in 1993. However, I've seen three 1992 500E's, and all of them came from the factory with r134a. I was wondering if 1992 500E's were the only W124's to come with r134a, or if 1992 400E's also came with r134a. I do know that 1992 300E's did not. |
Some manufacturers switched over as early as 1992.

I remember looking at a '92 300D (124) that was factory 134.
Have a great day, |
I'm beginning to wonder if it therefore showed up as a running change in the 1992 model year cars.
Does anyone know a member who drives a 1992 model? Let's have them go out and take a look under their hood. There is a sticker that tells you the kind of refrigerant. |
My 1992 300E did not come with R134a (since converted, though).

I have a 1993 300E made in late August or early September, 1992. It was delivered with R134. As I understand it, R134 was put in all 93 model year cars and some of the later 92s had it as well.

The W140 chassis was the first car comming to the US with R134 & that was in Sept 1991. When the 400E/500E's came out they also had R134a. All 1993 cars EXCEPT the W201 chassis had R134a. BY law all cars from 1994 were R134a compliant.
