2005 C240 4matic crank position sensor?

Hi all, my name is Ryan Fitts, and I'm having an issue with my C240 wagon. The engine died on me on the way home from work. OBD2 error code indicates crankshaft position sensor problem. I replaced the crank position sensor, but the engine still cranks without catching. Could it be the sensor's wiring harness?

Thanks

Where did you source the new sensor from?

Autozone. It's that or OReilly in our immediate area.

There's your problem.

Issue seems to be fixed now. It was the plug that goes into the sensor. Had a bunch of crap in it. Going to stick with the current part for now, but I'll avoid the local stores in the future.

Thank you for getting back to us with the resolution. It will be a big help when folks search for this problem in the future.

Hmmmm......what kind of crap was in the connector? The reason I ask is because I’m wondering if the “crap” wasn’t the problem all along.

Well, the plug that goes into the sensor has what looked like dirt/grease in it. I may have to replace it as well, as my check engine light came on while driving home from work. OBD2 showed a list of new errors, which I'll be looking up tonight.

OK, so I got the following error codes: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304, P0305, P0306. So, error codes for random cylinders misfiring, as well as all cylinders but #3 misfiring. This was after fixing it this morning, driving it around the neighborhood, and getting no error codes before going to work.

Could this be some cascade of errors from the crank position sensor plug gone bad?

Just an update, after getting the previous error codes, I disconnected then reconnected the wires that go into the ignition coils. This fixed the issue until tonight, when I started getting the same issues on the way home. I never had any issues like this until my crank position sensor went bad and I had to replace it.
