I have a strange sound coming from the rear end of my ’85 190e. When I pull off from a light or back-up I’ve noticed a very annoying intermittent growl (it really sounds like that!) coming from the left rear of the car. As the Rpm’s rise the sound starts and goes away and is sometimes noticeable at highway speeds. I’ve noticed that the sound is only there when the car is in motion, as I have revved the engine in neutral and did not get a sound. Any ideas? I’ve had the oil in the differential changed and the sound is still there.
Thanks! CD |

Benzmac and the pros are better suited to this question, by all means take their advice over mine. But I might hazard the guess of a wheel bearing going south. Does application of the brakes change the sound any?
Just an idea...Lee |
