does anyone know where to get a gearbox for the 16v sunroof motor? i can find lots of suppliers of the motor and gearbox sold as one unit but i don't want to pay $280 for both together when my original motor is fine.

I don't think there is anything special about the 16 valve sunroof motor/gearbox. I would try a junk yard. Sunroofs were pretty common on the 190 series cars but I am not sure when the tilting feature was added. Anyway, check the part numbers out for the regular ones on FastLane and see if you can figure out when they changed to the ones that support the tilting feature. Then check out junkyards. I saw a post quite a while ago when I was considering the need to acquire a used head for a web site where you punch in what you are looking for and a bunch of "recyclers" from across the country list what they have, including pricing. I cannot remember the site though. At any rate, you might get lucky calling Phil at the Partsshop too. Good luck, Jim
