1989 420SEL automatic antenna failure
 

Hi, purchased this vehicle recently and trying to determine most common reason(s) for the automatic antenna not going up and down (the radio works fine). Any suggestions on why it doesn't work? Thanks. John

May be a broken plastic cable inside. Easy replacement. Just unscrew the antenna from the fender and pull the cable/antenna out. The new antenna with cable will just feed back in the hole and retract itself. Worst case is you have to remove the plate in the box inside and fish out a piece of broken cable.
