1986 420SEL linking oil when driving

I drove my car for about five hours at about 80 and ninty miles an hour in 90 degree weather. when I came to a stop the car start smoking due to oil leaking on the exhaust system, from the oil pan to just pass the rear passener door. this car has 188,000 miles on it.
Does any have any notions to what broke.

thanks to all of you for passing such good info

I'd venture a guess that your valve cover gaskets are leaking.

Are you sure it's engine oil and not tranny fluid. Just asking --- because you sure don't want to blow out your transmission.

Whenever I have had a leak like yours, that was not immediately traceable, I get a couple cans of engine brite cleaner, my car ramps, rags, and head to the local self-car wash place. Clean everything you can from the bottom (Don't use that stuff on the top of your engine!!!). Wipe down any remaining fluid residue. Usually I can pinpoint the leaks when I get home. Then it's a matter of deciding if the problem is a DIY project, or not.

Be sure to check the transmission pan. Service kits (gasket, filter, washers) are only ~$25 at this site, and could save your car.

Cool fixed leaky transmission

My car stopped shifting gears and I was stuck in first(1989 420sel) I went to my mechanic (with visions of a big transmission bill) and he told me to go to Wal-Mart and get some oil leak transmission additive and put in italong with some transmission fluid.. It Worked! So, before you do anything else try this first.
