300SE brake rotor question

Rebuilding the brake on my'88 300SE and ran into a problem. I can't break the rotor attachmentbolts. I have an electric impact wrench the can deliver 400 Ft.Lb of torque. The bolts will not budge one bit.

Are the bolts LockTitedfrom the factory? Would a little heat help?

Anyone have any ideas?

If they won't budge warm them a little, soak them, impact them a little repeat, repeat. They can be very difficult. Is there Loctite???, I don't know.

May have to install a couple of lug bolts, turn the face down and clamp the lugs in a vise, get a long breaker bar and break them loose.

Good luck!!!

Thank you for your reply. I soaked everything with Liquid Wrench for 24 hours before I even started to try to remove the bolts. Bolts would not budge with the impact wrench I have.

I asked about LockTite because MB uses it on the two caliper securing bolts. It is applied and allowed to air dry before bolt installation. I just don't know if the rotor bolts are treated the same way, as this is my first replacement of the front rotors.

I'll let you know how the job goes.

I use the longest 1/2" breaker bar I've got in box to start. Then I use a 2", 4' long school 40 SS pipe slipped over handle.

Get a better impact wrench.
