Camshaft in M103 (fastlane Help)
I am trying to replace my camshaft in my 1990 M103 engine and when I go to fastlane, I have two choices depending on some number which I can not locate. Can anyone help me out here?

You need to find the serial number. Its located on the passenger side close to oil pan level near the front.

I don't have the block right now to check...but you are talking about the engine block correct? I don't have the serial number for the car because I bought the engine seperate from the car.

yes, engine block number

I think (may want to check with a search) that the earlier 300E (before about '89) had slightly 'hotter' (relative of course) cams, these could be the different ones.

I don't believe that there was a change of cam for the 2.6 engine, and imagine it uses a similar cam (perhaps the same) to that in the original 3.0, before the change of cam design.
It makes 167 bhp, against the 3.0's 187bhp (both in Europe), which means a higher bhp/litre for the 2.6 (64 vs 62), so I'd suggest no other M103's cam would give more power. If you want more power, go with an aftermarket cam, but be warned that you will lose low-down torque (something I would never be willing to change about my MB). later |
