I just started seeing coolant coming from something that is mounted on the left side of the engine. It sits between the coolant overflow and the water pump it has a hose going to it that forks off the water pump hose and then it has a hose coming off the back that goes to the firewall. It has an electrical connection also. What is this and why is it leaking. I am taking my first trip next weekend and I don't want any problems. Thanks in advance!

It is an auxhilary water pump used for consistent climate control heat output while at idle. It is leaking because the seal is worn.

To add to the RBM response, you will need to replace it.
