Time for a new 300e?
So just when I'm getting my 171k mi.,'89 260e in great operating condition (this is the weekend I fix the AC!) and making plans to keep this car for the long haul (planning new suspension upgrades, head rebuild, etc...) I find this ad in the local paper:
MERCEDES 1993 300E, 3.2, 57K. Mint. No snow. Smoke silver. $14,900. Is this a reasonable offer - and a reasonable upgrade from my current 124? Also - what luck/strategies have you all had selling your old, high-milage MBs? Thanks. |

I sure wouldn't plan on getting anything NEAR $14K for your old one. $14K is WAY too much for ANY 124 car IMHO. These days, $10k is too much. You will probably have no problem selling your current car, your mileage is not all that high, but I would think long and hard before giving three prices for another one, regardless of condition.

That is a lot of money for a '93 - the Kelley valuation for a private sale is $13.4K - but it sounds like a very clean low-mileage car. Try a $12K offer.
If you like the 300E's, then an upgrade to a newer car can make a lot of sense, especially if you are looking at doing a lot of work that doesn't add much value to your car and you are able to buy a new one that doesn't require any work for a few years. My $.02.

My $0.02, __________________ Larry Bible Larry, I think I MIGHT be tempted if I saw a pristine 500E with under 100k miles for $14k.
