Diagnostic module 015 545 43 32 01 goes under the dashboard

On my 1994 Mercedes E320, the self test 16 pin Diagnostic module near the battery will not blink after pressing the button for codes. It only stays lit when pressing the button and when I release the button after pushing and staying 3 to 5 second, no blinks for codes.

Someone mentioned somewhere that the Diagnostic module 015 545 43 32 01 located under the dash behind the steering wheel may be defective and needs to be replace. Is this particular diagnostic module a wear and tear item?

So I did some checking on that particular part and read that it may needs to be reprogram through a dealership. Anyone out there knows about this? Any truth to that?

Comments, feedback or advice is greatly appreciated.

diagnostic control module unit replacement possibility?

I did some research on the diagnostic control module unit that is for sale at ebay. Here is the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/292673198189?hash=item4424ae986d:g:YLwAAOSwzyFgdMO9&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAAoIDv5NR2JP81j7KwPvV+NbcFz/ey4hK04rPWh1D/F7Hs33K/1CheqiP00FkzgGtM6gD0+4cyKkTql4oz6EYRbpSbk77K6xbL6AsGluvikHt25JP4qDAIT05yg02eEwezn4nPBTCGwHbGOTdZOEW+ d4OXF7pbyA4kn3WUYjIoZ8JCm8B/XhpbdSDNJjubL/cossfQBRNPaxqwaRjQu9dxWgw=%7Ctkp:Bk9SR7Sco9H2YA&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338759164&toolid=10001&customid=130832X1595753Xe688df47245321460f6d54414fe703e2#vi-desc-maincntr
The seller states:
Condition:
Used
Seller Notes:
“PLEASE NOTE: THESE UNITS ARE BOUGHT BY PART NUMBER ONLY. BUYING THEM BY YEAR, MAKE & MODEL ALONE CANNOT ENSURE COMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR VEHICLE. IT IS THE CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MATCH THE MANUFACTURER’S NUMBER OFF ANY UNIT LISTED WITH THE ONE ON THE PART IN THEIR CAR. THIS UNIT MAY REQUIRE REPROGRAMMING TO BE OPERATIONAL (USUALLY LATE MODEL VEHICLES) REPROGRAMMING MUST BE DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP OR A QUALIFYING LICENSED MECHANIC.”

Does this particular diagnostic control module unit needs to be reprogram?

Comments, feedback, advice is greatly appreciated.

After getting responses concerning the diagnostic control module needing to be reprogram, no, it does not need to be reprogram. It is just plug and play!!! However, I do have another diagnostic control module and will use it to replace.
