auto box has no kickdown

Hi
I put an automatic transmission in my manual w126, which started life as a 560 until someone converted it to a diesel, OM606.

The gearbox was taken from a W140 american model. All i know is that it is a five speed.

The operation went well and the car drives ok, except for the fact when i approach hills and the car is in 5th gear. I have to manually drop the shifter down to "3" and then get the umph.

Of course,im pretty sure i don't have the correct automatic shifter, as it should be P-R-N-4-3-2 right?

But more importantly, there is a "linkeage" which my mecanic could not find which he says, when fitted, will give me the kickdown from the accelerator.

If anyone can help me with a picture or a link, so i can start the search of junkyards, i'd be very grateful.

And what should be the correct shifter? Can i fit another one from the top without taking out the entire transmission?

thanks for your patience and advice.

Best

the 722.5 nor 722.6-both are 5 speeds-was never installed in a 126. doubt you will find a bolt on solution. but maybe a 140 with a 606 would help-maybe.

BB:
The transmission is almost certainly a 722.5xx.
Kickdown is accomplished electrically; there is a solenoid valve on the transmission, and a switch under the throttle pedal. If the car was originally a 560 the switch may still be there, and perhaps the wiring also.

The 5th gear solenoid is on the valvebody itself and it is controlled by an HGS module - did your conversion guy install that too?

usually you lose 4th gear in these, and the box shifts from 3 to 5.

God i hope not.

No, i guess he didn't fit this when he did the conversion. Annoyingly, also, i have a gear lever from a 280 so it only shows 3 and 2. Im guessing fitting the one with P R N D 4 3 2 1 won't be so difficult, right?
