John and Ken, KFI AM 640 Los Angeles, offered a detailed report on this car during their show yesterday afternoon that was found buried on an estate in the wealthy enclave of Atherton, south of San Francisco.
The then owner of the property, now deceased, had a significant criminal record and reported the car as stolen subsequently collecting an $87,000 insurance settlement.
So far there is no clear motive for this caper other than speculation.
I recall a story from decades ago that a woman in Beverly Hills buried a Ferrari on her property and then encased it in concrete. It's been so long that I can't remember if the story was true or just another old wives tale.
Back in 1962 when I was a 15-year old growing up in Seattle I heard a story that there was a '61 Corvette for sale on Bainbridge Island, across Puget Sound from Seattle, for only $1000, and the reason it was so cheap is that a guy died in it and wasn't found for a couple of weeks and they couldn't get the smell out of it. So I tell my dad, and he just laughed and said "when I heard that story it was a Stutz Bearcat."
