Hi, I got a couple of questions. My mechanic found a leak in the evaporator using a fluorecent dye. He showed me the leak from the drainage tubes on top of the transmission . However, he also mention a "small leak in front of the compressor". He recommended to change the evaporator and convert to 134 at the same time but, he did not mentioned anything about replacing the compressor (1.5 year old). Should I replaced/repair the compressor at the same time? What is this list opinion about the performance of R134 vs R12?

I forgot to mentioned the vehicle in question is a 1986 300e.

If the compressor shows any signs of leakage it should be replaced with the conversion. The 134-A does run at slightly higher pressures and will put a little more stress on the sysytem. I have found that the OE condenser core should be replaced with the most current one. It has about double the heat transfer capacity as the original.
