w201 lost they only key
 

is there a way to put a new key/cylinder in without the original key?

Try to get an original key from the dealer by VIN, this option may not longer exist but I'd ask more then one dealer.

Next would be replace the key cylinder, steering lock and ignition switch as an assembly. Lots of grinding and drilling in tight quarters, it's not fun.

I don’t think you can replace the old tumbler without the key but you can buy a new tumbler with a key I brought a new tumbler with key that fits everything in my W201 from the dealer in Los Angeles a few months ago

Just order a new key from the dealer. They are still available.
