Benz Gurus.. question on power seats...

Hello all.. I have a 1989 300e, and for soem strage reason ... i cant lower the hieght of the driver seat.. I tried the power seat control on the door, but to no avail the seat only "tilts" forwards and backwards, not raising up and down... any suggestions.. thanks again for your time....

I fully expect the problem to be the switch. You might possibly pry the switch apart and clean the contacts. I have not tried this on this particular switch, but I have been successful on many other MB switches, particularly in the 123 cars.

Good luck,

Larry is right. Most of time is with the switch, "dirty" contacts. You could do what Larry suggested, pry the switch and clean the contacts, but before you do that, try spraying some WD-40 on the switch.

I had similar problem with my seat switch. Pried open to clean the contact, and it worked for some times, but the problem returned again. Read some threads on this forum, and someone suggested WD-40. Tried the WD-40 trick, and it works so far so good.

I would not use WD40. Good lubricant, but it attracts dirt over time.
Go to Radio Shack and get yourself a can of electronic parts (contact) cleaner. You will have much better long-term success.

Of course, not as versatile as WD40, but the electronic cleaner does not leave a residue to attract more dirt.

You presumably realise that, on the lower, horizontal switch, you can push the front up and down, and the back up and down, so you have to push both to lower or raise the seat without tilting it. Pushing only one would 'tilt' it.
