Removing pulleys M106 engine
I have to remove the front cover to trouble shoot the engines timing chatn/oil pump issue. Having a problem holding the drive pullieys at the front of the engine.
Any ideas on how to secure the pullies from moving when breaking the bolts loose? |

"M106"
If you had one, you probably would not be asking about it here. |

My bad. it's a 103.981 setting in an '88 300SE.
Now that I have the right engine, does anyone know of a way to hold the pulley to break the bolt's loose? |

yeah its in my garage in my tool box, mercedes uses a geared holder attaches to the oil pan at the rear held only by two long screws to hold the flywheel from turning, if you have a helper you may be able to hold the flywheel with a screw driver

I have one of those coming. I'm having a problem with the oil pump, and water pump, PS pump.
I can't find any way to hold them. I have a copy of the engine OEM engine ship manual and all it says is to remove the 13mmm bolts. |

I wedged in a long screwdriver to hold the pulley from turning when removing the bolts. Never had a problem with it doing it that way.

They make a generic pulley holding tool that when you attach it with the belt on the pulley , the tool pinches as its rotated the rubber belt therfore grips the pulley and you loosen the bolts, or just buy an electric ratchet from home depot

I've used a rubber strap wrench as well. (sounds kinky, but did the job)

Make a piece of wood 18 inches long with two slots in it that will go onto the face of the pulley. The slots need to be not 180 degrees apart otherwise the pulley will rotate in the slots. Offset the slots so it causes a bind when the pulley is rotated.
