AC Problem
My 1983 240d AC Blows cold air but the tempture control on the dash doesn't adjust the tempture. I replaced the dash control but it didn't fix the problem.
I have to put the control on and then shut it off when it gets too cold. Need help |
IIRC, there is a temp sensor in the dome light assembly with a rubber hose to it, may be worth a look at the hose and sensor for attachment and cleanliness.
Good luck!!! |
AC Problem
My model doesn't have climate control, no senser in dome light
thanks |
Look for a capillary bulb into the AC evaporator and confirm it is connected/in place. By slowly moving the temp control from cold to hot you should be able to feel a slight detent when the capillary reaches its open/close point at the control.

AC Problem
Thanks for your help. I did find what looks line a bi-metal probe plugged into the evaporator with a long wire that I assume is the one plugged into the rotary
temperature control on the dash. The bad news is that I can't find a replacement for my model. I am considering splicing in one from another year. What are your thoughts? |
Splicing one from another model would work but I'd first try testing the existing one and then looking for a good used exact replacement.
With the AC on does disconnecting the probe turn the AC off? Does applying heat and cold change anything electrically? Can you feel the switch open/close when slowly rotating the knob? Testing would rule out other components sticking closed e.g., a compressor relay. Good luck!!! |
I blew some carb cleaner in a small hole in the sensor. It worked for a short time, then went intermittent then stopped again. Impossible to find a replacement. Called Mercedes parts and got the original parts # 123 830 03 72 searched by part# and found original Mercedes part on EBAY $139.00. Got it ordered and will recei8ve on next Friday. This is probity the last one on the planet.
Thanks again |
Good luck!!!
