throttle cable connection to throttle linkage

yesterday i broke the rubber piece that connects the throttle cable to the throttle linkage. after 16 years all the rubber parts are beginning to fail. to fix the problem i just cut half of a flanged washer, so i could bend it like a lockwasher bends, and inserted that cut washer around the throttle cable in front of the throttle linkage. the setup is connected as it was before but instead of a rubber fitting making the connection i have this metal washer. after adjusting my idle, everything works fine. is there any reason to aquire and install the original type rubber fitting, i.e. will having a metal washer there cause any problem? if that doesn't make sense i'll take pictures and post.

thanks

Throtle linkage

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my 230E some days back... when the rubber linkage had torn and made my car immobile. Actually the cost of the rubber spare is quite low (2 $) and quite easy to install. It requires to remove the airfilter and you have easy access to the throttle cable. It's is DIY .. if you are technical oriented.
