Question A/C Compressor Help

I need to replace my a/c compressor on my '84 380 SL. It looks to be a real pain. Is pulling the radiator necessary? Does the compressor and carrier come off as one piece? Also, replacing the drier. I am debating on the expansion valve - really tight working space here! It was already R134 operational. Appreciate any tips or tricks to this job!

Thanks!

If you are replacing the compressor it will be necessary to replace the receiver dryer as well as the expansion valve. You may also want to replace the switches that plug into the dryer. Once this is done, you'll need to flush the system thoroughly to rid it of any debris. Debris in the system can damage your new compressor and then you'll have to replace it again. If you take it to a shop you're looking around $500- 700 labor. At least that's how much they wanted to charge me to have it done on my old 300D.
