W124 V-8 engine compartment heat
 

Close inspection of the new SLK320 AMG's nifty louvered hood makes me wonder about having similar ones done for my E420. Has anyone ever done this scientifically by mapping the engine compartment "hot spots"? The SLK AMG has two sets of louvers; one down each side of the "power bulge". They look very nice.

I just bought a '90 300E two months ago and noticed a couple very hot spots. The metal gets scorching hot on the left and right edges of the hood toward the front where it meets the fender, not directly on top of the hood. The sides of the front fenders just behind the turn signal lamps are probably the hottest places, especially the passenger side. I was thinking of maybe getting a diesel passenger side fender which has the louvers already in it. This would probably help. Just drive somewhere and then check with your hand for the hottest places. It is pretty easy. Hope this helps. -- Mikey
