500-E foglights on 300-E

Does any one have experience at installing 500-E foglights on the 300-E? There are removable plastic pieces rivited on the back of the airdam/bumper cover on my 300-E in the same position as the foglights on the 500-E. When i went to the dealer the rivited plastic pieces are shown and numbered (item# not mercedes#) but it was not applicable to the 500-E. So one of the things i need to know is if there is a part available that fits between the fog light and the airdam/bumper cover for mounting the 500-E foglights. Then how is the lighting switched between headlight, foglight, driving light, i am asuming that there was a driving light in the headlight assy. originally, on U.S. DOT models. Does the 500-E have a model specific light switch interchangable with the 300-Es headlight switch

500-E foglights #s 129-820-01-56 & 129-820-02-56
500-E bumper cover # 124-880-47-70
300-E bumper cover # 124-880-40-70

thanks
tim

w/ stock 300e main headlight units adding 500e foglights in the lower front bumper.....you'll have (4) four foggies to light up the lower part of the road immed in front of the car.

...hmmm that's interesting

to work, you'll undoubtedly need to mimick the relay/wiring system the 500e uses to activate both sets of foggies w/ standard driving lights powered

a 500e healight switch/wiring schematic may help

>as an easier/ more koser alternative- - you may wish to upgrade to '94-'95 Bosch DOT lighting units- - the foggies and standard running lights are way ahead vs. the pre '94 units.

Hi Tim,

If you want to take a look at a 500E take a drive over to Park Place Limited in Redmond. I believe they still have a 500E there for sale and you can pretend your considering purchase and pop the hood and do your inspection of the lights and fogs underneath.

I couldn't quite understand the different mounting arrangement you were talking about so if you want to post a picture (I'm a visual person) I might be able to answer you.

thanks placo1
park place is just 5 minutes away.
I don't have a picture to post i need one that shows how the fog light connects to the back of the bumper cover. I'll give P.P. a call and see if the 5 is still there, then the picture may not be necessary.

thanks for all your help, i can safely conclude that this conversion will not work, you would need the 500-e bumpercover and thats a dealer only item about $1300.oo and who knows if it would fit. i'm not going to find out.
