fuel odor
please help!!! my 190e 2.6 ('91) mercedes has a fuel odor when I cut if off. I tried the fuel cap, no problem. The fuel is emitting from the outside of car, driver side. I haven't raised the hood.
on 3-27-02, I had the a/c ports replaced and recharged a/c system and inspected for leaks (expansion valve leak was replaced during conversion to R134A (this was highly recommended by the technician), replaced receiver /drier, and switches. Does this have anything to do with present fuel odor? Any suggestions??? Last edited by Annette; 07-17-2002 at 03:57 PM. |

Hello Annette,
Do a visual inspection of your HEA valve you will know right away if this is the problem. Cabin side of your fuel distributor.... Run a search on this site for fuel smell or HEA. Hope this helps! Brian ___________________________ 1989 300E (165K) |

I hope he means EHA!
You won't find much under HEA, but do a search for EHA or electro hydraulic actuator and see what you find. It's black in color and is "about half the size of a cigarette pack" on the driver side of your fuel distributor. Take off your air filter element to check it.
Also, have you had your fuel filter changed recently? The copper seals on the filter can be tricky and must be tightened down properly to not leak. Good luck! ~Paul ___________________ '91 300E, 215K miles |
